Abstract
A surgical end effector for cutting and stapling tissue is disclosed. The surgical end effector comprises a first iaw and second iaw configured to clamp tissue when the first and second jaws are in a clamped position. The end effector further comprises a replaceable staple cartridge and a tissue thickness compensator configured to adapt to variations in the thickness of the clamped tissue. The tissue thickness compensator comprises three fibrous patterns oriented in three different directions and a tissue contacting surface comprising a textured surface. The textures surface is configured to minimize movement of the tissue relative to the tissue thickness compensator. The end effector further comprises an I-beam comprising a first camming member, a second camming member, and a cutting member. The end effector further comprises a first attachment member and a second attachment member configured to be progressively released by said cutting member.
