Abstract
Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for recognizing a position of a vehicle. The apparatus includes a recognition unit that recognizes at least one first neighboring vehicle, a global positioning system (GPS) receiver that receives an absolute position of an own vehicle, a communication unit that transmits, to another vehicle, a relative position of the at least one first neighboring vehicle and the absolute position of the own vehicle and to receive, from the another vehicle, an absolute position of the another vehicle and a relative position of at least one second neighboring vehicle recognized by the another vehicle, and a processing unit that calculates the relative position of the at least one first neighboring vehicle, fuses relative positions of at least one third neighboring vehicle commonly recognized by the own vehicle and the another vehicle based on the relative position of the at least one first neighboring vehicle, the absolute position of the own vehicle, the absolute position of the another vehicle, and the relative position of the at least one second neighboring vehicle, and corrects an absolute position of at least one of the own vehicle, the another vehicle a…
