Abstract
Provided is an organic EL device that exhibits high luminous efficiency and has high stability when driven despite having low voltage. The organic electroluminescent device is obtained by laminating an anode, organic layers and a cathode on a substrate, wherein at least one of the organic layers contains (i) a compound represented by chemical formula (1) below, and (ii) a carborane compound having one or more divalent carborane groups and an aromatic group substituted for the carborane group. In the formulas, X1 and X2 represent NR1, PR2, O, S, Se, CR3R4 or SiR5R6 and Y represents a single bond or aromatic group.
