Abstract
Carbon disulfide is made by contacting hydrocarbons with sulfur vapor and sulfur dioxide at temperatures between 500.degree. - 1000.degree.C. for 0.3 - 10 seconds in the absence of a catalyst. The total sulfur introduced as sulfur vapor and sulfur dioxide is between 2.1 and 3.5 atoms per hydrocarbon carbon atom.
