Abstract
A valve located in an engine intake manifold vacuum line is operated by differential vacuum forces to temporarily open an air bleed during engine deceleration high manifold vacuums to apply atmospheric pressure to a vacuum controlled unit that then bypasses air away from a catalytic converter and the engine to protect the converter and prevent backfire.
