Abstract
This invention relates to amphoteric surface-active agents which have extremely powerful inhibitory action against Gram positive bacteria and which are substantially free from metal halide, and, particularly, sodium chloride. These compounds have the general structure: ##EQU1## wherein R is a straight chain alkyl having from 6 to 16 carbon atoms, R' is a lower alkyl, and M is either hydrogen, an alkali metal or an alkylolamine.
