Abstract
Method and apparatus for machining an end surface for a housing for a slant axis rotary mechanism having a slant angle of .crclbar. and a rotor to shaft to housing timing ratio of S.sub.R /S.sub.S S.sub.H. The method includes the steps of providing a grinding tool within a fixed predetermined area, rotating a housing having an end surface to be machined about its central axis at a first rate of rotation R.sub.1 with the end surface engaged by the tool, and simultaneously rotating the housing about a second axis intersecting the central axis at an angle .crclbar. and at a second rate of rotation R.sub.2. The rates of rotation are chosen according to the following relations: R.sub.1 = n(S.sub.H - S.sub.R), and R.sub.2 = n(S.sub.S - S.sub.R). n Is an arbitrarily selected average angular velocity component. The disclosed apparatus performs the above method.
