Abstract
A novel catalytic composition is described, useful for treating olefins or alcohols with carbon monoxide in the preparation of carboxylic acids comprising a solution containing copper carbonyl and a hydrated boron fluoride which optionally may contain a mineral acid such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid or hydrogen fluoride. The copper carbonyl functions as a co-catalyst for the hydrated boron trifluoride to enhance selectivity. The catalysts are especially suited for the preparation of neo acids.
