Abstract

1'-Variable-1',1'-dihalo-halobenzeneazomethanes of the structural formula: ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen; alkyl of from 1 to 7 carbon atoms, inclusive; cycloalkyl of from 3 to 7 carbon atoms, inclusive; haloalkyl of from 1 to 7 carbon atoms, inclusive; halocycloalkyl of from 3 to 7 carbon atoms, inclusive; alkoxyalkyl of from 2 to 8 carbon atoms, inclusive; hydroxyalkyl of from 1 to 7 carbon atoms, inclusive; and phenyl optionally having 1, 2, or 3 substituents, e.g., halogen atoms, lower-alkyl or from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive, halolower-alkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive, and lower-alkoxy of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive; the X's are independently bromine, chlorine, or fluorine; m is an integer 0, 1, 2, or 3; and R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and Y are independently halogen, lower-alkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive; halolower-alkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive; or lower-alkoxy of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, inclusive; providing however, that at least one R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is halogen, and that the sum of the carbon atoms in substituents R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and Y may not be more than 15.
