Abstract
A process for the preparation of aromatic polyketones and copolyketone/sulphones (ketone to sulphone content 75/25 to 100/0 having high molecular weight comprises heating dialkali metal salt of a bisphenol containing ketone linking groups with equimolar or slight molar excess of dihalobenzenoid compound having halogen atoms activated by a ketone or sulphone linking group in the presence of certain diaryl sulphones at 250.degree. to 400.degree.
