Abstract

Isomerization catalysts for hydrocarbons, and particularly for normal paraffins and/or naphthenes, formed of the following: PA1 At least one platinum-group metal, preferably platinum; PA1 At least one element selected from the group consisting of rare earth metals and yttrium; and PA1 At least one metal halide, for example aluminum trichloride, PA1 A carrier for the foregoing metals and halide which is formed in whole or in part of at least one refractory mineral oxide, such as alumina, and additionally a halogen in combined form, preferably chlorine. Also a process for the preparation of the foregoing catalysts involving at least one impregnation of the carrier with at least one solution containing at least one of the elements yttrium, rare earth metals, and platinum-group metals; at least one of the impregnating solutions including ions of the foregoing elements except the platinum-group metals; and an aftertreatment by known means with at least metal halide, preferably selected from the group consisting of aluminum trichloride, aluminum tribromide, ferric chloride, ferric bromide, beryllium dichloride, and zinc dichloride. Further modifications of said process including acidific…
