Abstract

The invention provides an electroplating bath and a method for the electrodeposition of bright aluminum coatings on metals and conductive materials with aprotic oxygen- and water-free, organo-aluminum electrolytes which contain as a brightener at least one additive with at least one sulfonamide, sulfonimide and/or carbimide group. Particularly suitable brighteners are o-benzoic acid sulfonimide, N-benzoylbenzenesulfonamide and the reaction products of o-benzoic acid sulfonimide or N-benzoylbenzenesulfonamide with aluminum triethyl. Using the method, a fast-adhering and corrosion-resistant bright aluminum coating is obtained which finds use for decorative purposes and, generally, for corrosion protection in surface finishing, e.g., also as mirrors and reflectors for light and heat radiators.
