Abstract

The present invention relates to N-polyhydroxyalkyl-amino acids of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a phenylene or a group of the general formula --CHR.sub.3 --, wherein R.sub.3 represents hydrogen, alkyl, benzyl possibly substituted by a hydroxyl group, hydroxyalkyl, mercaptoalkyl, methylthioalkyl, aminoalkyl, polyhydroxylalkylaminoalkyl, carboxyalkyl, guanidinoalkyl, N-polyhydroxyalkylguanidinoalkyl or a ureidoalkyl group, R.sub.2 represents a CH.sub.2 OH or COOH group, m stands for the integers of 3 or 4 and n for the integer 0, if m = 3, when R.sub.2 is COOH, or 4, or for the number 1, if m = 3 and R.sub.2 represents a CH.sub.2 OH group, their alkali metal salts or possibly substituted ammonium salts; as well as the process of preparing the same and skin care and protection agents containing an effective amount of said N-polyhydroxyalkyl-amino acids.
