Abstract

In the process of forming a coating selected from nickel and cobalt-based atings on a surface of a component made of a metallic material having a total composition by weight comprising at least 50% of metal selected from the group consisting of iron, cobalt and nickel, the improvement comprising forming at least one layer of an alloy of boron with one of nickel, cobalt and nickel/cobalt on the component, after which the boron is eliminated.
