Abstract
A novel synthetic peptide corresponding to the eleven amino acid residues of the NH.sub.2 -terminal portion in the sequence of carcinoembrionic antigen (CEA) has been synthesized and this was attached by means of a water-soluble carbodiimide reagent to multichain poly(DL)-alanine as well as to bovine serum albumin. The resulting macromolecular conjugates provoked rabbit anti- CEA(1-11) peptide antibodies and a novel assay was developed for ascertaining the presence of adenocarcinomas of the digestive tract, pancreas and breast, based on said novel compositions of matter.
