Abstract

.beta.-HYDROXYALKYLAMIDES AND CERTAIN POLYMERS THEREOF ARE DISCLOSED AS CURING AGENTS FOR POLYMERS CONTAINING ONE OR MORE CARBOXY OR ANHYDRIDE FUNCTIONS. Also, self-curing copolymers containing carboxy and .beta.-hydroxyalkylamide functionality are disclosed. The .beta.-hydroxyalkylamides are either known compounds or may be prepared by treating an ester with an appropriately substituted amine. The .beta.-hydroxyalkylamides are effective in solution, aqueous emulsion and powder coating formulations.
