Abstract

Aqueous compositions obtained by mixing together water, hydroxyethyl cellulose and an organosilicon compound RSi(OR').sub.3, wherein R represents methyl, ethyl or vinyl and each R' represents methyl, ethyl or methoxyethoxy. The compositions are useful as primers and protective coatings for surfaces, particularly wood.
