Abstract
Bronchial asthma and other bronchospastic and allergic diseases are treated by administering an effective amount of a substituted xanthine compound having the formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sub.1 = C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl, PA1 R.sub.3 = c.sub.1 -c.sub.7 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 alkynyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl or C.sub.4 -C.sub.7 cycloalkylalkyl, PA1 R.sub.8 = h, c.sub.1 -c.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkynyl or C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 cycloalkyl, PA1 R = c.sub.1 -c.sub.4 alkyl, 2-halo C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkyl, or phenyl Novel and preferred bronchodilator and antiallergy compounds are disclosed having the formula ##STR2## wherein: R.sub.1 = C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 alkyl PA1 R.sub.3 = ch.sub.2 --(c.sub.3 -c.sub.4 alkyl),--CH.sub.2 --(C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl), or --CH.sub.2 --(C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 cycloalkyl) PA1 R.sub.8 = h, c.sub.1 -c.sub.2 alkyl, PA1 R = c.sub.1 -c.sub.4 alkyl, 2-halo C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkyl, or phenyl The bronchodilator and antiallergy agents may be administered in the form of tablets, capsules or aerosols.
