Abstract
Hepatitis B virus (detectable as its surface antigen HB.sub.s Ag) is produced in a purification preferably suitable for use in preparing a hepatitis vaccine, by contacting a crude biological starting material containing hepatitis B virus with a water-insoluble cross-linked sulfated polysaccharide gel matrix adsorbing agent to adsorb the hepatitis B virus thereon and then desorbing that virus therefrom by treating that hepatitis B virus carrying adsorbent with a desorbing agent.
