Abstract
A composition for the treatment of paper which improves the wet strength of paper is provided. This composition contains PA1 (a) a water-soluble mono- or binuclear hydantoin compound containing glycidyl groups, and PA1 (b) a water-soluble copolymer of maleic acid or of one of its derivatives such as maleic anhydride and of a further ethylenically unsaturated copolymerizable comonomer with 2 to 20 carbon atoms such as vinyl methyl ether, dec-1-ene, styrene and/or ethylene or a water-soluble salt of such a copolymer. Also a process for the treatment, preferably the surface treatment of paper with the above composition is provided.
