Abstract
A process for the production of methane or methane containing gas from a feed mixture containing hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and gaseous compounds of sulfur, by contacting said feed mixture with a solid catalyst having from 1% up to 99% by weight of molybdenum and from 99% to 1% by weight of at least one element of the lanthanide or actinide groups of elements or mixtures thereof, at a temperature of from about 300.degree. C. to 600.degree. C. and a pressure of from about 100 psig. to 2000 psig.
