Abstract
A lubricating oil composition comprising 0.001% to 10%, based on the total lubricating composition, of a compound of formula I: ##STR1## wherein x is an integer from 1 to 25; R, R.sup.1 and R" are the same or different and each is hydrogen, an optionally substituted straight- or branched-chain alkyl residue having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, an alkenyl or alkynyl residue having from 2 to 12 carbon atoms, an optionally substituted cycloalkyl residue having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, an optionally substituted aryl residue having from 6 to 10 carbon atoms, an optionally substituted aralkenyl or aralkynyl residue each having from 8 to 12 carbon atoms, an optionally substituted aralkyl residue having from 7 to 20 carbon atoms or an optionally substituted heterocyclic residue having from 3 to 10 ring members, an alkylene residue having from 2 to 12 carbon atoms, a cycloalkylene residue having from 5 to 12 carbon atoms or an arylene residue having from 6 to 10 carbon atoms; or R is the group -(S).sub.x R" and when R and R' are different from R", R" can also be one of the following residues: (a) a residue of formula: ##STR2## wherein Z is the atom grouping necessary to complete, with the ca…
