Abstract
An agent for sequestering heavy-metal ions comprising a water-insoluble amorphous alkali metal aluminosilicophosphate having the formula (I): EQU [x(M.sub.2 O).Al.sub.2 O.sub.3.y (SiO.sub.2).z(P.sub.2 O.sub.5).w(H.sub.2 O)] (I) wherein M is alkali metal selected from the group consisting of Na, K and Li, x, y, z and w are integers representing the mole numbers of the respective components, wherein x, y and z satisfy the following relations: PA1 0.20.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.1.10, PA1 0.20.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.4.00, and PA1 0.001.ltoreq.z.ltoreq.0.80, and w is or zero an optional positive number.
