Abstract

In the dye diffusion transfer process for the production of colored images dye-providing compounds of the following formula give lower color fog values Dmin, as compared with known dye-providing compounds: ##STR1## X = dye or dye precursor Z = intermediate member PA1 n = 0 or 1 PA1 R.sup.1 = --O--R.sup.2 ; --S--R.sup.2 or ##STR2## R.sup.2 = hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl R.sup.3 = a group as defined under R.sup.2 or acyl PA1 R.sup.4 = hydrogen or alkyl PA1 Y = a residue to complete a condensed benzene ring and R.sup.1 and/or a substituent on the condensed benzene ring is or contains a group that confers resistance to diffusion.
