Abstract
A phosphor having a general formula; EQU nReF.sub.3.mAfCl:Eu.sub.x where PA1 "Re" is a rare earth element, PA1 "A" is an alkaline earth element, PA1 "x" is not smaller than 1.times.10.sup.-4 and not larger than 1, and PA1 "n/m" is not smaller than 1.times.10.sup.-3 and not larger than 7.times.10.sup.-1. Further addition of samarium enables the phosphor to exhibit a decreased afterglow.
