Abstract
A process for the preparation of a phosphorus-containing reaction mixture comprising at least one additive corresponding to the formula: EQU Y.sup.a -S-Y.sup.b wherein Y.sup.a corresponds to ##STR1## and Z is ##STR2## Y.sup.b is EQU -R.sup.8 -S-R.sup.9 or EQU -R.sup.8 -H which comprises the steps of reacting PA1 (A) at least one phosphorus-containing reactant corresponding to the formula: ##STR3## with (B) at least one unsaturated aldehyde or ketone corresponding to the formula: ##STR4## with (C) at least one thiol or dithiol corresponding to the formula: EQU HS-R.sup.8 -H or is EQU HS-R.sup.8 -SH wherein each R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 is independently a member selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbyl, hydrocarbyloxy and hydrocarbylmercapto of one to about 30 carbon atoms; R.sup.3 is hydrogen or hydrocarbyl of up to about 10 carbon atoms; R.sup.4 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 are each independently selected from hydrogen, hydrocarbyl, hydrocarbyloxy and hydrocarbylmercapto of one to about 10 carbon atoms; R.sup.7 is hydrogen or hydrocarbyl of one to about 30 carbon atoms; R.sup.8 is a divalent hydrocarbyl group of one to about 30 carbon atoms; R.sup.9 is hydrog…
