Abstract

The manufacture of .beta.-chlorocarboxylic acid chlorides by reacting .alpha..beta.-olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acids with phosgene is advantageously carried out by first at least partially reacting the unsaturated carboxylic acid with hydrogen chloride and then carrying out the reaction with phosgene.
