Abstract
Bodies are press-molded from a mixture of particulate fuel and a binder. These bodies are heated to a temperature between about 600.degree.-900.degree. C. in a rotary furnace to degas them. The degassing is carried out without subjecting the bodies to mechanical stresses and without permitting combustion of the expelled volatile gases. The resulting shaped coke has a greatly improved abrasion resistance.
