Abstract

A gate valve is provided for use in conjunction with vacuum equipment in which a gate assembly is opened and closed, for example, by a pneumatic cylinder. The gate assembly is enclosed in a valve housing, and aligned openings are provided in the opposite walls of the housing. The gate assembly is moved by the pneumatic cylinder between an open and closed position with respect to the openings. The gate assembly includes a gate which is mounted on a carriage, and the carriage is moved by the pneumatic cylinder between a first position in which the gate is open, and a second position in which the gate is closed. A feature of the gate valve of the invention is that when the gate is open, a smooth bore is provided through the valve aperture with electrical surface conductivity for short-circuiting stray radio frequency electric currents.
