Abstract

.alpha.-(4-Biphenylyl)-benzyl-azolium salts of the formula ##STR1## in which A is CH or N, PA1 R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each independently is hydrogen, alkyl or optionally substituted phenyl, PA1 R.sup.3 is hydrogen, alkyl or optionally substituted phenyl, phenylalkyl, phenylcarbonyl or phenylcarbonylalkyl, PA1 m is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, PA1 X each independently is halogen, alkyl, halogenoalkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, nitro or cyano, PA1 n is 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, PA1 Y each independently is halogen, alkyl, halogenoalkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, nitro, cyano or phenyl which is optionally substituted by halogen, alkyl, halogenoalkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, nitro or cyano, and PA1 Z is the anion of an inorganic or organic acid, are used to combat fungi.
