Abstract

Benzotriazole compounds employed as development restrainer precursors are described having on one nitrogen atom an alkali-hydrolyzable, N,N-disubstituted carbamoyl group. The compounds may have the following formula: ##STR1## wherein: R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each represent a substituted or unsubstituted alicyclic, aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic moiety, or may be taken together with the nitrogen to which they are attached to form a heterocyclic ring; and PA1 R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 each represent hydrogen, nitro, lower alkyl, halogen, carbamoyl, sulfamoyl, RCONH-- or RSO.sub.2 NH--, wherein R is lower alkyl or aryl.
