Abstract

Phosphonic acid esters of the general formula ##STR1## in which R represents a C.sub.12 -C.sub.22 -alkyl or-alkenyl radical, a C.sub.7 --C.sub.18 -aralkyl radical or a radical of the formula --R.sub.4 --O--CO--R.sub.5 or --R.sub.4 --COO--R.sub.5, wherein PA0 R.sub.4 denotes an optionally substituted C.sub.2 --C.sub.4 -alkylene radical and PA0 R.sub.5 denotes a C.sub.6 --C.sub.22 -alkyl or -alkenyl radical or a cycloalkyl radical, PA0 R.sub.1 represents the ethylene and/or 1,2-propylene radical, PA0 R.sub.2 represents hydrogen, C.sub.1 --C.sub.4 -alkyl or --(R.sub.1 --O).sub.x-1 R.sub.1 --R.sub.3, PA0 R.sub.3 represents OH, Cl or Br, PA0 x represents an integer from 2 to 100 and PA0 n represents a number from 1 to 10, are used, especially in aqueous formulations, as emulsifying agents and dispersing agents.
