Abstract

Peptides having the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen and R.sub.2 is hydroxyl, alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, aryloxy, arylthio, halogen or azido, or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same and each is hydrogen, halogen, alkoxy or alkylthio, or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 together are oxo, --O--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --O--, or --S--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --S--, wherein n is 1 or 2; PA0 R.sub.3 is hydrogen, alkyl or trifluoromethyl; PA0 R.sub.4 is hydrogen or an acyl protecting group; and PA0 R.sub.5 is hydrogen or alkyl; are inhibitors of angiotensin converting enzyme and can be used for the treatment of hypertension in mammals.
