8-Aryl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydropyrazolo(3,4-b)(1,4)diazepine-1H,4H-5,7-diones of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 through R.sub.5 are as defined in the specification, and medicaments containing these having an anxiolytic action.
