Abstract
A process for preparing a brassylic diester of the formula: EQU ROOC--CH.sub.2).sub.11 COOR wherein R is a lower alkyl group by hydrocracking 6,6'-methylenebis-(6-hexanolide) in an alcohol of the formula: EQU ROH (wherein R is as defined above) in the presence of a metal catalyst and an acid catalyst. A process for producing the hexanolide is also disclosed.
