Abstract
Isoindoline colorants of the general formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, PA1 R.sup.2 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl and PA1 X is oxygen, sulfur, imino or N-cyanoimino, and the ring C may or may not be substituted by groups which do not confer solubility. In surface coatings, printing inks and plastics, the colorants give very deep and brilliant yellow colorations which have good to very good lightfastness and fastness to overcoating.
