Abstract

A method of bonding a cation exchange membrane which comprises melt-bonding a part of the cation exchange membrane of a fluorinated copolymer in the form having ion-exchange groups of --COOY wherein Y represents hydrogen atom or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl group, when the cation exchange membrane is used in the form having ion-exchange groups of EQU --(COO).sub.m X wherein X represents an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or --NHR.sub.1 R.sub.2 R.sub.3 and R.sub.1 to R.sub.3 respectively represent hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group and m is a valence of X.
