Abstract
A magnetic head transducer having enhanced signal output and a manufacturing method therefor are provided. The head is manufactured in such a way that the transducing gap has a uniform width along its entire length. The head is comprised of two confronting ferromagnetic pole pieces intimately bonded together with a transducing gap of approximately 1 micron in width extending from the top to the bottom of the head. The individual pole pieces from which the head is formed have opposing major surfaces, each of which has front and rear gap faces which are joined together to form front and rear portions, respectively, of the transducing gap. A nonmagnetic material is deposited on the front gap faces at a thickness equal to the desired width of the gap. The brazing alloy in then formed on the rear gap faces at a thickness of at least five percent greater than the thickness of the nonmagnetic material. The pole pieces are held together so that the respective front and rear gap faces thereof are in abutting relationship and the brazing alloy is heated to intimately secure the pieces together. The bonded pole pieces are then sliced along an axis parallel to the length of the transducing gap…
