Abstract

Method for producing 4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid where PA0 (a) o-chlorophenol is reacted with glyoxylic acid to form 3-chloro-4-hydroxymandelic acid, PA0 (b) the 3-chloro-4-hydroxymandelic acid is reduced to 3-chloro-4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid, and PA0 (c) the chloro group is cleaved from the 3-chloro-4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid.
