Abstract
A fused cast refractory composition which is suitable for use as the lining of a glass melting furnace comprises, by weight and on an oxide basis: PA0 1 to 74% of CrO.sub.3, PA0 15 to 40% of ZrO.sub.2, PA0 3 to 76% of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 PA0 7.5 to 20% of SiO.sub.2, PA0 0.4 to 2.5% of Na.sub.2 O, and PA0 0.3 to 4.0% of iron oxide and/or manganese oxide, the SiO.sub.2 /Na.sub.2 O ratio being from 5 to 15, and the Na.sub.2 O being optionally partially or wholly replaceable by a technically equivalent amount of one or more other alkali metal oxides, and the sum of the specified ingredients being at least 97% of the total composition.
