Abstract

A process for the preparation of a dimethyl polysulphide of the formula EQU CH.sub.3 --S.sub.x --CH.sub.3 in which EQU x is at least 1, comprising reacting a polysulphide of the formula EQU M.sub.y S.sub.x in which PA1 M represents an alkali metal atom or alkaline earth metal atom, and PA1 y is 1 or 2, with O,O,O-trimethyl thiophosphate of the formula EQU (CH.sub.3 O).sub.3 P.dbd.S.
