Abstract
A silver catalyst for the production of ethylene oxide, comprising a granular .alpha.-alumina carrier having a sodium content of not more than 0.07% by weight and a specific surface area within the range of from 0.5 to 5 m.sup.2 /g, a finely divided metallic silver deposited on said carrier in an amount within the range of from 5 to 25% by weight based on the total catalyst, and at least one member selected from the group consisting of alkali metals of Atomic Numbers 19 to 55 and alkali metal compounds said at least one member being in an amount within the range of from 0.001 to 0.05 gram equivalent weight per kilogram of the complete catalyst.
