Abstract

(6R,7R)-7-amino-3-(1-pyridiniummethyl)ceph-3-em-4-carboxylic acid monoperchlorate is a useful intermediate in the preparation of (6R,7R)-7-amino-3-(1-pyridiniummethyl)ceph-3-em-4-carboxylate dihydrochloride by enzymatic deacylation of 7-amino-3-(1-pyridiniummethyl) cephalosporin compounds and may be isolated in a substantially pure crystalline form. The said dihydrochloride and its solvates may be used as intermediates in the preparation of a wide range cephalosporin compounds.
