Abstract
A loose probe alarm in which a temperature responsive element (14) arranged for attachment to a body is periodically heated (20, 22, 26) and the effects of self-heating of the temperature responsive element are monitored (32, 36, 38) to determine whether the temperature responsive element has been dislodged from the body. The alarm is arranged to sense the difference in the amount of heat dissipated by the temperature responsive element when it remains in contact with the body to which it has been attached and when it has been dislodged from this body.
