Abstract
Method, composition and article of manufacture to inhibit the staining of water-contacting surfaces, such as those in a toilet bowl, which is caused by manganese present in household water in the presence of an oxidizing material. Manganese staining is inhibited by supplying to the water 0.05 ppm to 10 ppm of a glassy phosphate having the formula MO(MPO.sub.3).sub.n M wherein M is sodium or potassium and n is an integer of from about 6 to about 21.
