Abstract
A new process is disclosed for the preparation of a compound of the formula (VIII) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1-4 alkyl, C.sub.1-3 alkoxy, or trifluoromethyl; PA1 R.sup.5 is amino or C.sub.1-4 alkoxycarbonylamino; or a salt thereof, which comprises reacting a compound of the formula (II) ##STR2## with gaseous chlorine and a rhodanide of the formula (III) EQU R--SCN (III) wherein R represents a metal ion or ammonium.
