Abstract

Wood and wooden materials are treated with aqueous treatment media. These media contain a water-soluble or water-dispersible, oxidatively drying, organic binder. The latter is a low-molecular weight, optionally modified 1,3-butadiene polymer which carries quaternary ammonium groups. This polymer is obtained by reacting an epoxy-group-containing polymer with a secondary and/or primary aliphatic amine and reacting the amination product with a low-molecular weight monoepoxide, during which process 0.05-0.5 mole of the quaternizable amino groups is quaternized per 100 g of the amination product. The treatment media preferably additionally contain wood preservatives and additives customary in the impregnating and varnishing field.
