Abstract
A method of controlling damage to the central nervous system of a patient which comprises administering to such patient a central nervous system-controlling effective amount of a pyridine derivative of the formula ##STR1## in which R is an optionally substituted aryl or heterocyclic radical, PA1 R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are hydrogen or various organic radicals, PA1 X and Y are CN, --CO--R.sup.3, --COOR.sup.4 or --SO.sub.2 R.sup.5, or form with R.sup.1 or R.sup.2 a carbonyl-containing ring, PA1 R.sup.3 is an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl radical, PA1 R.sup.4 is hydrogen or an organic radical, and PA1 R.sup.5 is an optionally substituted alkyl or phenyl radical, or a salt thereof.
