Abstract
Pentaerythritol is treated at a temperature of about 180.degree. to 220.degree. C. with a strongly alkaline acting material, e.g. calcium oxide. The thus treated pentaerythritol serves as a costabilizer e.g., with the salt of a polyvalent metal and a carboxylic acid, for a vinyl chloride resin, e.g. polyvinyl chloride and has outstanding properties as such.
