Abstract
A catalyst for manufacturing methacrolein by the vapor phase oxidation of isobutylene or tertiary butanol, said catalyst having the composition represented by the following formula EQU Mo.sub.a W.sub.b Bi.sub.c Fe.sub.d A.sub.e B.sub.f C.sub.g D.sub.h O.sub.x wherein PA0 A represents at least one element selected from the group consisting of nickel and cobalt, PA0 B represents at least one element selected from the group consisting of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals and thallium, PA0 C represents at least one element selected from the group consisting of tellurium, antimony, tin, cerium, lead, manganese and zinc, PA0 D represents at least one element selected from the group consisting of silicon, aluminum, zirconium and titanium, PA0 a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, and x respectively represent the atomic ratios of Mo, W, Bi, Fe, A, B, C, D, and O, and when PA1 a is fixed at 12, PA1 b is from 0 to 10, PA1 c is from 0.1 to 10, PA1 d is from 0.1 to 20, PA1 e is from 2 to 20, PA1 f is from 0 to 10, PA1 g is greater than 0 to 4, PA1 h is from 0 to 30 and PA1 x is a number determined by the atomic valences of the individual elements, and being molded in the shape of a hollow cylinder having…
